A brief bio:

John Fonseca Babl is a Director of Photography, born and raised in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He has lived both in the United States and Brazil, and is based in Miami, Florida. John shoots music videos, commercials and features, time-lapse and stock footage, with industry standard cameras and related systems: Arriflex, Aaton, Moviecam, Mitchell, Sony, Panasonic and others. He's also an ardent fan of the photochemical and mechanical aspects of motion picture film and cine equipment, including shooting with vintage hand-cranked 35mm cameras.

As a camera assistant, John has learned from working with various Directors and DP's such as Hype Williams and Malik Hassan Sayeed- on Smitty's "Diamonds On My Necklace" music video, and with (LA Directors) "Fat Cats" on LL Cool J's music video "Headsprung", among others. John's roots and background are in the music industry, working and travelling as a freelancing bassist: "I see them as running parallel, like when you look at a film print: The sound and picture live together, with both art forms fueling each other". John was also influenced by live music/concert films, which made a deep impact on him: The Isle of Wight and Woodstock movies, Led Zeppelin's and Yes films, Miles Davis and Frank Zappa's numerous films, to name a few. As a bassist, John has performed and recorded with diverse artists such as Capitol- Metro Blue artist Nil Lara, Island Records singer-songwriter Soraya, (as part of Natalie Merchant's Tiger Lily World Tour); fellow Island recording artist Mangu, touring in Europe with Rahzel and Delinquent Habits; Warner recording artist Pepe Alva, Niurka Curbelo, Fulano, Fernando Osorio and others; he has also freelanced with Richard Marley, Delmar Brown, singer/actress Maria Conchita Alonso, among others. From extensive travel and touring, John's had a chance to become familiar with and experience many countries and cultures in Europe, South America, and the United States.
